Olin FoMSO
I am teaching a class at Olin College of Engineering called Fundamentals of Machine Shop Operation. The curriculum I designed for this course introduces students to the use of knee mills and gear lathes through a series of hands-on projects. Students build a tool in each project and by the end of the course have a ‘toolbox’ full of skills in the machine shop and a physical toolbox full of tools to prove it. See below a photo of each of my first semester students followed by a collection of their work from class.

I designed the Day One Clamp so that students can walk away from the first day of class with an early and resounding success. The machines are set up for this project ahead of time so that students get some experience on the machines early without the requisite training (which comes the very next class period).
